Press Release: Can Man Dan's City-Wide Food & Toy Drive
PSA : FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE.
November 20th, 2019.
Can Man Dan set to (once again) sacrifice body & personal luxury in support of Edmonton’s Food Bank and Santa’s Anonymous.
For the ninth consecutive year, the award-winning activist & philanthropist is set to complete four, four-day winter campouts to support Edmonton’s less-fortunate.
Edmonton, AB – For the ninth consecutive year, Dan Johnstone (AKA Can Man Dan) will continue his holiday tradition of supporting struggling families and local children in need. Johnstone has once again vowed that “no child will go without a hot meal on their plate and a gift to open up on Christmas Day.”
Starting on November 21st, Dan will be completing four “freezing cold winter campouts” around Edmonton in hopes of raising as much food and brand-new toys as he can for Edmonton’s Food Bank and Santa’s Anonymous respectively. Last year Can Man Dan managed to raise more than 60 000 pounds of food and $60 000 in new toys for each respective charity. This year Can Man Dan is aiming to raise 100 000 pounds of food & $100 000 in toys for children and families in need.
“I don’t believe in much, but I do believe that every child deserves a hot meal on their plate and a gift to open up on Christmas Day."
"As someone who grew up in a single parent, low-income household, I can tell you that without the support of Edmonton’s Food Bank and Santa’s Anonymous, we’d have nothing to open up or eat on Christmas Day, and now it’s my job to keep the cycle going and ensure that no child falls between the cracks,” said Johnstone.
Can Man Dan’s City-Wide Food & Toy Drive will kick-off via press conference (10am) on November 21st at Southgate Centre’s Safeway (5015 111 Street, Edmonton, AB). Dan will be camping out for four frigid days (from Novemeber 21st to November 24th) collecting food and toy donations 24 hours a day!
